Eyecare in times of COVID.
Ever since the pandemic started, we are advised to maintain social distancing, this leads to a huge shift to a digital era. From digital shopping to work from home, online classes, and zoom meetings the screen time is increased drastically. This leads to an increase in various unwellness such as dryness of eyes, tired and puffy eyes, headaches, dizziness, and itching.
Here are a few eyecare quick tips recommended by our optometrists to keep your eyes safe and healthy.
- Follow the 20-20-20 Rule.
Take regular breaks every 20 minutes for 20 seconds and focus on objects 20 feet far away. This will release the strain caused by blue screens and help them relax to a very extent.
- Eyes are dry, blink more!
We are constantly staring at our computer screens which cause dryness of eyes. Blinking produces tears that moisten and refresh your eyes. Try to make it a habit to blink more often when looking at screens.
- Let your eyes exercise
Each body part needs exercise and so do your eyes. To do so, place an object such as a pen at an arm’s length and move it back and forth to your face and then go back to the original position. Continue for 2 minutes.
For another exercise focus on a distant object and trace a rainbow with your eyes. It moves and exercises your eye muscles.
- Adjust your screen & brightness
Always use your phone from some distance with larger font and adequate brightness with an angle below your eyebrows.
Desktop users should operate the devices from 28 inches from the screen with 4-5 inches above, maintaining the required eye level. Never use your screens in dark.
- A healthy diet for your eyes
Massage your eyes in circles to increase blood flow at night to relax your eyes. Use cucumber eye patches to cool down the stress. Include almonds, walnuts, fish, and citrus fruits in your daily diets.
Visit for a regular eye check to nearby Eye-Q hospital. Amidst the pandemic, Eye-Q has introduced teleconsultation for your eyes. What is better than sitting in the comfort of your own home and get your eyes checked?
