Follow these natural ways to maintain healthy eyes in your prime years for optimal eyesight.

  • 20-20-20 Rule

Screen time is a major concern these days. The young generation ends up spending a major proposition of time glued to screens, such as laptops, smartphones, television, and other electronic devices. Excessive screen time can lead to visual fatigue. However, the 20-20-20 rule is highly recommended by ophthalmologists. “So typically, after every 20 minutes of screen time, make sure to look away for 20 seconds at something 20 feet away from you. Consider gazing out a window at an object that appears distant, such as a tree.

  • Blue Cut Lenses and Sunglass

If you spend long hours on digital devices, it’s a good idea to wear Blue Light Blocker Lenses or Blue Cut Lenses, which have a special coating that absorbs and blocks harmful high-energy blue light and UV rays from entering the eyes. Similarly, sunglasses, which are viewed as a fashion accessory, can shield your eyes from the sun’s ultraviolet rays. When purchasing sunglasses, make sure you buy those that prevent 99 to 100 percent of UV-A and UV-B exposure.

  • Eat Well to Preserve Your Vision

As children, we often heard our elders say that carrots are healthy for vision. However, consuming a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, notably dark green veggies like spinach, kale, or collard greens, is also vital for maintaining eyesight. Additionally, eating cold-water fish high in omega-3 fatty acids, such as salmon, lake trout, mackerel, sardines, tuna, and halibut, has also been found to boost eye health.

Being physically active has been linked to a lower risk of developing initial and advanced macular degeneration, as well as lower blood pressure, inflammation, and oxidative stress, and importantly lower rates of almost every chronic illness. Aerobic workout has a direct bearing on better cognitive function. A healthy brain therefore can help you see and observe better.
